This show revisits the Year 2000 in an alternate reality where the Millennium Bug caused havoc and a mysterious pandemic put the world into a state of apocalyptic sleep. The story is told through the microphones of the Canadian shortwave station Toonie Radio as the apocalypse unfolds with scenes in both Canada and Mexico.
Conceived and written in early 2019, this series received a local arts grant for financing the first three episodes. The production was delayed until late summer 2020 due to the real-life pandemic. The recordings with the diverse and bilingual cast required three days in a community theatre, following social distancing and other precautions. The non-union cast members came from many corners of Canada and Latin America. Two composers, a Canadian and a Mexican, created the original music.
